ABOUT
ME
A graceful and renowned dancer in Kolkata and Singapore, Nibedita has dedicated her life to Kathak and now teaches Kathak at Nritya Chanda, a school of her own creation.
She has also acted in several Bengali movies and TV serials.
She started her artistic journey at the tender age of 3 years under the guidance of Guru Sushmita Mishra, an exponent of Jaipur gharana followed by Smt. Aditi Bhattacharya and Guru Pandit Om Prakash Maharaj of the Lucknow Gharana.
She learnt and performed Kathak for many years under the tutelage of Guru Ashim Bandhu Bhattacharya.
She attended many workshops under the guidance of the legendary Padmavivushan Pandit Birju Maharajji and Smt. Sashwati sen and performed with the great maestro himself.
Nibedita’s dance form reflects the amalgamation of the ‘vigour’ of Jaipur gharana and ‘khoobsurti’ of Lucknow gharana.
Over the years Nibedita has performed as a solo artist and in group choreography in festivals like Uday Shankar dance festival, Konark dance and Music festival , Asianet Filmfare Awards, India Tourism Fair, Katahak Mahotsava and so on.
She has also performed and choreographed various Indian dance forms in the ‘Interracial Harmony Festival’ in Singapore on several occasions.
She has performed in front of illustrious audience members including the president of Singapore and Indian high commissioner in Singapore.
She has directed and performed in many dance programs conducted by Tagore Society of Singapore and Bengali Association of Singapore.
Ever wanting to expand her horizons, she has recently started to learn kathak dance style from Padmavivushan Smt. Kumudini Lakhiaji, another legend in the world of Kathak.
